Hypercubism manifesto was published on 21 November 2025. In the current year, in addition to writing, I have explored Hypercubism on a deeper level through painting.
The first three Hypercubist studies were completed after the publication of the manifesto, although the painterly process itself had already been present in the background in the form of pictorial investigations. The first completed works are “Guitar,” “Bananas, Apples and a Mariskooli Bowl on a Table,” and “Chessboard on a Table”.
The bases of the paintings consist of plywood bottoms from old storage cabinet drawers. The layered elements are made from discarded pizzeria thermal insulation, Finnfoam, and the collage elements include leftover DC-fix, an old bedsheet, and surplus cardboard. Wooden barbecue skewers found in the studio also found their way into the works.
In Hypercubism, material choices are conscious and purposeful. Old recycled materials reveal their own history and original function. Within Hypercubism, they act as evidence of reality, almost like fragments reminding us of the concrete factors present in our lived world. Matter itself has also lived and travelled its own journey.
